Spring is but a memory and it’s almost July – what happened to Christmas??

The Masters was a “Phil The Thrill” deal with Tiger finishing tied 4th. All things considered, I thought both efforts were exemplary and that we were in for a great year from the both of them. As it turns out, it’s been rather anti climactic, but as it’s still only half way through the year, maybe time for some more fireworks from either or both yet.

The US Open was another victory for the International players, with a great effort from the Irishman Graeme McDowell , bringing him out on top at Pebble Beach. I don’t know about you, but watching pros trying how to figure out how not to make bogey, is something I can live without. The USGA have a credo that they want par to be the winning score. Why, I have no idea and I suspect neither do they, except that someone in the dim dark ages decided it was a good idea. By all means identify the best player, but please don’t embarrass the rest. The Open Championship is another kettle of fish altogether. The R@A want to showcase the game and links golf, to me anyway, is always far more compelling viewing because of the vagaries of weather, conditions and links golf.

Speaking of the Open, we are back to the home of golf, Saint Andrews. A couple of holes have been tweaked, most noticeably, the Road Hole. The 17th has always produced drama and with the lengthening, it will be interesting to see what transpires. St A’s needs wind to defend herself and I’m hoping for plenty. The past couple of Opens have been played in good weather – what’s going on with that, this is Scotland for goodness sake!
On the local front, Green Fairways has never been in better shape. For a little old 9 hole public course, it will test you out more than most. Par is a very good score around here, so if you’re thinking about trying us out, bring your A game! If all you have is a B-, then give me a call.

Cheers all,

Lee
