Singapore Open and the wind down to the end of the year.
Hi folks! It’s almost mid November, the Christmas lights are up and Robinson’s have their usual exemplary display – another year is almost done and dusted and as they say in this neck of the woods – Ai oh!!
Now who went to the Barclays Singapore Open and if not, why not? Once again, Sentosa, it’s GM, Peter Downie and all his hard working staff turned out a golf course that show cased not only Singapore golf, but the beautiful Garden City at it’s absolute best. Those of you who watched the telecast would have been in awe, as I always am, of the magnificent shots of the course, the harbor and the city. Singapore rocks!
The weather, as it usually does played a big part in the proceedings and we had the normal rain delays for the first three days. Fortunately, the last day was perfect and the tournament finished on time with England’s Ian Poulter, the winner by one shot over Liang Wen Chong. Adam Scott showed a welcome return to form finishing a further shot adrift, tied with Scott Hend, also from Australia. This tournament is going from strength to strength and with it now being a European Tour Event and being played just before the season climax in Dubai, it will become a must for all the European Tour players. Barclays has committed to the next three years with minimum prize money of 4.5 million US dollars. Good work if you can get it!
The European Tour now moves on through Asia, Aussie and South Africa, so those of us who are missing the US Tour, will have a more than adequate replacement with some great TV golf over the next few months. Speaking of which, Tiger is in Melbourne this week, playing in the Australian Masters at Kingston Heath. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of playing the famous Melbourne Sandbelt courses, will know of The Heath and it’s every bit as good as its reputation. Tiger hasn’t played in Melbourne since 1997, so it will be very interesting to see how he goes against the best of the Aussies - Robert Allenby not withstanding. I’ll be keen to see how Michael Sim plays this week and next week in the Open. I think he is the next best thing to come out of Australia – so we shall see how he stacks up this week against Tiger.
Now onto the local scene - Green Fairways is rocking along as it always does. The course is in good shape and you can always get a game without booking. Where else in Singapore can you do that? Where else for that matter, can you play without a handicap or PC in Singapore? You can at Green Fairways and you can also have some of the best Asian cuisine available in this part of the world – not to mention a beer or three after your round!
My part of the universe is busy, but that’s just how I like it. Always room for more and I always have time for old friends to drop by for a quick “sort out”.
Wishing you all a Wonderful Christmas and the very best for the New Year.
Cheers everyone,
Lee
