PGA Championship

I have been getting some feedback – as they say in Singapore, about the lack of updates in the news section on my webpage. I don’t know, but once ever two years seems about right to me! I also thought that no one read it, but seems that I was wrong. To my Singapore Slinger mates - you know who you are. Ignore that last bit, you know I am never wrong! Will see you in our new treehouse on Friday and don't forget, my place for the party.

Ok, so how does one fill in a gap of two years and where do you start? I guess the obvious place is Tiger. Two years, two knee operation, all of which has been well documented by the press. Will he come back better than ever? Well I guess five wins from twelve starts post the major surgery is a pretty good indication that his rehab has been pretty successful. He didn’t win a major, although came close, but also missed the cut in one for only the second time in his career. He claims the season as being more than he hoped for, but in his heart of hearts, the one that got away (PGA) may rankle for a while.

This brings us to Y.E Yang. Korean golf has been going from strength to strength on the back of the Korean ladies dominating the US Tour. Now we have the first Asian born male player to win a major championship. That has to bode well for the profile of golf here in Asia and hopefully will bring more and more into the game. I can imagine that the ranges and courses in Seoul are going to be especially full this weekend and many more to come. We have a lot of tournaments to be played in the region in the next couple of months – so if you have the opportunity to go and see these guys and girls in action – don’t miss it. For those in Singapore, The Singapore Open will be played once again at the magnificent Sentosa Golf Club in late October. Expect a star studded field!

The LPGA has had a few well documented hiccups over the past twelve months and has had a top level management overhaul. Let’s hope that will bring the girls back some of their lost tournaments, especially here in Asia. We need more girls to take up the game and there is no better advertisement than tournaments like the HSBC Tournament of Champions held here in Singapore earlier this year.

Now, what is happening at Green Fairways? The course is in good shape, although a little dry – almost like playing in Aussie at the moment and that’s not a bad thing. Boy, we need some rain, but make the most of it – as those of you who have lived here know, it won’t last and the pre monsoon storms will make their appearance in the next couple of months. Get out there now and take advantage of a hard and fast golf course! The restaurant and bar has gone from strength to strength and offers a great spot for a post round drink or meal. The garden setting and views over the golf course really are lovely. It’s hard to imagine that you are smack bang in the middle of a city of 4 million people sometimes.

I’m as busy as ever, but never too busy to see new faces – or old ones for that matter! I’m also going to start up the ladies day again now that the summer holidays are over and the kids are mostly back at school. If anyone is interested, just give me a call and we will start the ball rolling again.

There you go – better late than never and with that, I will leave you with this thought –

“The least skilled the player – the more likely he is to share his thoughts on the golf swing”

Cheers everyone,

Lee
